The Challenge:

To develop train systems to upgrade a fleet of passenger rail carriages with:

• Central door locking including fault detection.

• Carriage fire detection and alarm system.

• Passenger emergency assistance buttons.

• Onboard Gigabit/s data communications including Wi-Fi access points and entertainment server.

• Alerts to staff handheld radios.

• All systems managed via touch screen displays in staff occupied areas on the train.

The Solution:

• The electrical, information and electronics engineering of cRIO-based control and monitoring systems. Electronics and system design integrated with mechanical design by an innovative partner.

• Development of the network architecture, fault monitoring and touchscreen formats.

• Coordination of hardware and software designs and prototyping to ensure an integrated, tailored solution.

• Development of system test benches to enable system checks.
